Get Your Event in the ‘Mobile’ Game

Reno Conventions’ full-service hotels and leading app developer, MacroView Labs, have partnered up to create a powerful and profitable custom app for your upcoming event in downtown Reno.

Mobile Apps for Events

Use a Mobile App for Your Next Event!

If your company is planning a conference, meeting or event at one of our downtown Reno hotels, you now have the option to build a branded, custom mobile app for your event attendees.

With this app you can provide any relevant meeting or event information to your conference attendees quickly and affordably. This is in line with the expectations of today’s mobile device user—who expects to receive information in a fast and convenient manner.

With the custom app, guests can interact with your team as well as each other during the event. The app has features to provide schedule information, speaker biographies, programs, materials, convention maps, feedback surveys, attendee lists and much more! Guests registered for your event will also be able to create buzz about the event with easy access to share information on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Foursquare.

Not only is the app convenient for your event attendees, it’s affordable and profitable for your company. Your company can use the app to sell advertising to sponsors and exhibitors, sell a product or service to attendees, and save on printing costs.

The app is compatible with the iPhone, Blackberry, Android and other devices.

As an added bonus, Reno Conventions’ full service hotels have existing apps that allow guests to book a room or access exciting casino information. With these apps, convenient amenities are at your fingertips. They make planning a vacation or business trip fast and on-the-go!

The existing app is free to download and compatible with an iPhone, iPad, iTouch or Android.

Silver Legacy’s Room Renovation is Suite!

Silver Legacy Resort Casino, one of downtown Reno’s top hotel and casino, has set a new standard in room sophistication. A multi-million dollar room renovation project finished in December 2010, transformed nearly 1,700 guest rooms and suites into rich, fresh spaces.

With a modern aesthetic that is indicative of the brand, modern furniture was chosen to match sleek plush carpeting, fine linen bedding with triple sheeting and damask throws, new 32” and 37” LCD televisions and ergonomically designed desks. Splashes of colorful décor add to the fabric textures in bold silver, red, brown and black shades. Other elements of comfort include new amenities and modern conveniences, such as easy-access outlets at our sleekly designed desks and frameless mirrored closets.

“We invest in renovations like this because we’re committed to providing a great guest experience”, says Gary Carano, General Manager of Silver Legacy. “These rooms are warm and stylish, a true testament to making sure our guests’ comfort comes first.”

If you have not yet experienced Silver Legacy Resort Casino’s new room transformation, try your luck by signing up for the “You’re the Star” 60 Day Room Giveaway to win a free night stay. Safari Club International 39th Annual Hunting Marketplace

This past month has been quite busy here in downtown Reno. One of the biggest events, held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, was the Safari Club International 39th Annual Hunting Marketplace on January 26-29, 2011. With over 18,000 attendees, the event was the second-highest revenue generating SCI Annual Hunters’ Convention ever, featuring over 1,100 exhibiting companies. Several awards were given out, including the Hall of Fame Award to Dennis Anderson, International Hunter Award to Larry Higgins, and the Top Guy Award to the Alaska Chapter.

Events throughout the week included Sportsmen Against Hunger Feed the Hungry Feast which gave 2,000 meals to local Reno residents, a Sensory Safari where visually-impaired individuals could experience wildlife firsthand, and the annual SCI Political Action Committee luncheon. One of the highest-profile events at the SCI Hunters’ Convention was Sarah Palin’s keynote speech on Saturday night. Just weeks after the tragic shooting in Tucson, members of SCI are worried about potential changes in gun control laws.

During her speech, Palin spoke about everything from Dancing With the Stars to her reality show on TLC, but finally got around to addressing the elephant in the room. She spoke for the majority of the right wing when she championed the Second Amendment, and remarked how important it is that the acts of one deranged criminal do not stifle constitutionally-protected rights. She also insinuated that she may be throwing her hat in the ring for the 2012 presidential election, drawing deafening cheers from the crowd.

The convention will be back in Reno January 16-19, 2013.

Making the Most of Your Convention Experience

Whether you are a convention veteran or a newbie, if you don’t plan ahead you run the risk of wasting time and can miss out on presentations of interest or making a valuable contact. Here are a few steps on how to make the most of your convention experience.

  • Plan your stay. It is very convenient to use the hotel provided by the convention. Having a room in the same building or directly adjacent to the convention can save you a lot of walking and it will make it easier to take a quick break, drop off materials, or have a quiet place that you can go to during break sessions. Additionally, staying at the hotel offered by the convention can save you money. Conventions will offer their attendees rooms at special pricing and you can save yourself parking fees. Parking at conventions can be expensive, and are not always guaranteed to be near the event.

  • Examine the convention website. Often times they will list a map of the floor space along with a list of the vendors participating. Review the list of vendors and choose ones that most interest you. Then map out their location so you can plan your time accordingly to ensure that you leave enough time for each vendor. This will help you make the most of your time rather than wandering around acres of floor space.
  • Review the schedule. It is always a good idea to review all of the workshops and sessions to decide which ones you should attend. If necessary, delegate the task of attending sessions to colleagues who are traveling with you or consider obtaining the handouts if you are not able to attend in person.

  • Bring your business cards. One of the benefits of attending a convention is to network and meet important contacts. Don’t be shy about handing out your business cards or asking for other people’s contact information. Introduce yourself to people sitting near you in sessions, workshops, and on the trade show floor. If you are job hunting, it is also a good idea to have a resume readily available.

  • Take time to follow-up. Soon after you return home from the convention, organize the business cards you collected. Be sure to follow up with the contacts you made within one week of the event – this helps people remember you and your occupation.  After attending several conventions, you will have built a great list of people to add to your business networks.
